Many people are unaware of just how unhealthy soda can be. Drinking soda destroys your body, in more ways than just adding a few extra pounds.
Soda and Cancer
According to Women’s Health Magazine, drinking one soda a day can significantly increase your risk for several cancers. One soda a day can increase a man’s risk of aggressive prostate cancer by as much as forty percent. One soda a day can also increase a woman’s risk of endometrical cancer by seventy-eight percent after she reaches post-menopause. Drinking two sodas a day can increase the risk of pancreatic cancer by as much as eighty-seven percent. These numbers are staggering, and frightening. There is so much more damage soda can cause your body, though.
Soda and Heart problems
One soda a day can increase triglycerides as much as thirty percent, leading to a hardening of arteries, which can cause several heart problems. Another risk that can lead to heart problems is diabetes. One can of soda a day can increase the risk for diabetes by as much as sixty-seven percent.
Soda and Metabolic diseases
One soda a day can also increase the risk of metabolic disease by thirty-six percent. The risk of kidney stones is increased by thirty-three percent when you drink one soda a day. Liver fat can be increased by one hundred and forty-two percent if one soda is drank a day for six months.
Soda and Teeth
Soda has a high level of phosphoric acid, which can alter the pH balance of your system, which can lead to the erosion of tooth enamel. Phosphoric acid has also been linked to accelerated aging processes. Phosphorous also leeches calcium from the body, and this can lead to osteoporosis. Phosphoric and citric acid levels in soda can upset the balance between acid and alkaline in the digestive system. This can destroy the lining of the stomach, as well as the duodenal lining. This can lead to inflammation of the stomach and increase the risk of gastrointestinal distress.
Soda and Immunity
Another damaging ingredient in soda is sugar. Too much of a sugar intake causes the pancreas to produce higher than normal amounts of insulin, which can weaken the entire immune system. Too much sugar can also cause the brain to reduce production of the chemical that helps humans learn, as well as dulling the brain’s mechanism that alerts the stomach that it is full and no more sustenance is needed.
Soda intake can reduce potassium levels. This reduction can lead to significant loss of muscle strength. Soda intake can also lead to Parkinson’s disease by turning off parts of the DNA.
Diet soda carries all of these risks, with even more potential for damage. Diet soda contains aspartame, which is linked to ninety-two health risks. Drinking two diet sodas a day for ten years has shown to increase waist expansion as drastically as five hundred percent.
No matter how you look at it, opting for the flavor of a can of soda is not worth the myriad of health risks associated with it. Soda destroys your body over time, and it is damage that cannot be reversed.
